This book showcases Chua Ek Kay’s gift to Singapore Management University—30 of his street scene paintings. It includes essays by Joanna Lee, Gretchen Liu, Kwok Kian Chow, and T.K. Sabapathy. Chua Ek Kay’s street scenes collection captures the tension between heritage and progress, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the old shophouses, narrow alleyways and historic sites of his childhood. Spanning a period of two decades, the paintings also represent the evolution of one of Singapore’s foremost artists.
