What our customer needed
South Beach is a mixed-use development currently being built along the historic Beach Road in Singapore, directly opposite Raffles Hotel. Owned by the South Beach Consortium (a joint venture between City Developments Limited and IOI Group), it will seamlessly blend four historic buildings (including the much-loved Britannia Club) with two new towers using state-of-the-art technology and design. Keenly aware of the colourful and whimsical history of Beach Road, the consortium decided that a book recounting the evolution of Beach Road since the early 19th century would impart a meaningful sense of time and place to the upcoming development, thereby enhancing its appreciation by potential investors.
How EDM helped South Beach Consortium realise its goal
South Beach Consortium asked EDM to develop an editorial and design concept for the book. Once this was approved by an editorial advisory board which comprised representatives from the client, other key personnel, and consultants, EDM commissioned an experienced author. Our editorial and design process was very detailed and included researching archival material, arranging interviews, sourcing suitable photographs and illustrations, working with other agencies involved in the construction of South Beach (such as the architect and conservation specialist), and finalising content for the book.
After close collaboration with the editorial advisory board on the content of the book and its subsequent approval, EDM ushered the project through the production process, including colour separation, printing and binding. At all stages, quality control was of great importance and EDM’s experienced production team ensured that all processes were carried out to the highest possible standard.
When the book was printed, EDM’s logistics department was responsible for the delivery of the book to the client for its events. In addition, on behalf of the client, EDM also stored the remaining stock of the book in its air-conditioned warehouse. To enhance the corporate gift-giving experience, EDM produced specially designed, limited-edition carrier bags for South Beach Consortium.
With solid experience at producing books on the history of Singapore, distinctive design expertise, and an efficient production strategy, EDM ensured on-time delivery of this quality publication. The overall result was a well-received book that captures the nostalgia of Beach Road, and throws a spotlight on the up-and-coming development which is primed to be a striking architectural icon in Singapore’s skyline.
In the words of our client: "Just want to say how much I appreciate the co-operation and support you and your team at EDM have provided ... You have made our dream come true." - Mr Yap Puay Beng, Chairman of the Editorial Board
