French America explores the rich French heritage in the United States. It is a highly visual book and a unique publication. Never before has the French heritage in America been presented this way—in full colour and with accompanying commentary. The book contains a broad overview of the history and present state of French structures and sites still standing in the US, from New England to the Gulf of Mexico. This is interspersed with special features on elements of French culture in the United States, such as the Huguenots and their descendants, French plantation architecture, and the cultural importance of Cajun country in Louisiana
Ron Katz is the editor of French America. He has been a professional journalist and editor for more than 20 years and has a deep grounding in both French and American cultures. He has written extensively on travel and business issues for several newspapers and magazines including the London Sunday Times, the International Herald Tribune, Business Travellerand others.
Arielle de La Tour d’Auvergne is the photographer. She has had several commissions from various international organisations including Comité des Parcs et Jardins de France and Fondation Théodora pour les Enfants. She has done photographic spreads for magazines and album covers, and has also exhibited her work in England and France.
Other contributers include Professor Hilliard Goldman, renowned preservation architect Jesse Francis, and Dan Baker, an authority on the Acadians.
